The Alex Angels started amateur baseball in the year 1980 and were perennial state tournament participants until they folded for the first time in 1995. The Angels came back in 2002 before folding again at the end of the 2005 season. In those 4 seasons, they made the state tournament 3 years in a row. The Halos came back again in 2011 and have made the state tournament every year. In 2012, the Angels were one of final four teams left in the state tournament. In 2013, the Angels brought back their first amateur baseball title to Alexandria, by defeating Winner/Colome 4 - 3 at the Bird Cage in Sioux Falls. In 2014, the Angels went back to the state title game and were defeated by the Wynot Expos. We ended up winning our second consecutive Sunshine League Title in 2014. In 2015, we went to our third consecutive State Championship game and were defeated by fellow Sunshine League member Parkston Mudcats by a score of 4-3. 2016 was a record breaking year as we went on to be the first undefeated State Amateur Baseball Champion ever in the state of South Dakota. We defeated the Garretson Blue Jays in the title game by a score of 7-1. 2017 was another memorable season for the Halos as we won back to back State Championships by defeating the Larchwood Diamonds 4-0. In 2018, we won the Sunshine League regular season and reached the quarter-finals at State before losing to the Flandreau Cardinals in a 13 inning heartbreaker 4-3. The streak of five state championship games played in was snapped. The 2019 season was another championship season. We won the Sunshine League for the fourth straight season. We concluded our season with a 2-0 victory over the Garretson Blue Jays in the State Championship. Back to Back State Championships again in 2020 for the Angels. We won the Sunshine League regular season & postseason. We ended the championship season with a 11-3 victory over the Canova Gang. The title gives us three in the last four years and 5th overall in the last seven. The 2021 season ended in the quarterfinals at the hands of the Flandreau Cardinals. In 2022, we finished with a District 5B championship and for the second straight season, our season ended in the quarterfinals of the state tournament. For the third consecutive year we ended the regular season as District 5 Champions. The state tournament was a disappointment as we dropped a game in the first round for the first time since we restarted the team. Since the 2011 season, the Angels overall record is 296 - 60. #GoHalos
